@xsimderellax  Please move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If you can, then start transferring your saves and other content from the old Sims 4 folder to the new one and see whether the game still works.  If it starts crashing or freezing again, you'll know that one of the files you moved over is the issue, and you'll need to split and retest the last batch until you find out which one.

If you can't access live mode in a new save ain a clean folder, with no other content added, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@Reuben-NSW-Aust  EA lists minimum and recommended requirements for its games, including Sims 4, for a reason.  It's the players' job to compare those reqs with their current or prospective computers, or to ask for help in doing so.

Having said that, even some laptops under the minimum requirements run Sims 4 just fine, albeit on lower settings.  I don't actually see that many reports of people who can't play at all, and most of those have computers that are far below the reqs or over a decade old, or both.

I don't know what components your laptop has or what exact issue you're seeing, but I'd guess that this has less to do with hardware than with either your user data or the way your system is set up.  If you'd like to troubleshoot further, please try the recommendations above, and if they don't help, post a dxdiag as well.

  • I have the same problem. My hypothesis: it is because my newly bought Dell computer doesn't have an adequate Video Card: specifically, the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 SUPER™, 4 GB GDDR6; that being what the Dell computer had which I contemplated buying, but I opted instead for a slightly cheaper model. It might otherwise be because my computer isn't powerful enough, which I imagine to be insufficient RAM. Admittedly I am not knowledgeable enough to know for certain, but most likely it is a combination of both: that is, what is causing both our problems.

Presumably, this is a problem that effects all customers who have inadequate hardware. As such, it seems likely that the reason why we both cannot find the help that we need is because EA, Origin and this EA Forum don't want to admit that their product cannot be used by a large proportion of their customers, both potential customers and those who have actually paid for their product. According to my own values, that is unethical. Should you feel the same, we have good reason for both feeling hard done by for not receiving the help we need.

Looking online, I found a useful technique for minimizing the problem is to eliminate unnecessary files. This requires having a backup and also knowing technically what you are doing, such as the correct folders to look in for the files to be deleted. For both these reasons, I found the following webpage particularly useful:
