Issues with solar panels (electricity related objects)

Hey all,

So, I haven't played sims 4 in a little bit. I came back to it yesterday, and I am noticing my sims eco technology isn't working. Specifically, her solar panels and wind turbines aren't working. The water collectors are working, and she can store and sell excess water. But, she never nets electricity. Even during sunny days, when all 30 of her solar panels should be just collecting energy like I collect self-esteem issues, she never gets any kind of electrical gain. She has 30 solar panels for christ sake, the odds that she should have to pay for electricity are low. I would get it if this was the middle of winter, or it was storming all the time, but she lives in Sulani and it has been sunny for the past four days. Did I miss something? Should I repair my game? It just seems like something isn't working the way it should, and I am tired of wasting money (both on green technology and on this game in general) if these things aren't going to work. If I wanted solar panels that didn't work, I would just go back to sims 3. So, does anyone know if this can be fixed? Thanks

  • @coltsfan017 Even when you are installing lots of solar panels your Sims (or you) should still take som action in reducing the amount of energy your household uses. Try enhancing all the electronical equipment (tv, radio, computers kitchen stuff etc) by making it more energy efficient or cut down on the lighting your household uses. Use of the grid stuf. In build mode you will be able to see the energy and water efficiency of the products. I chose to use candle chandeliers and stuf from the Realm of Magic to light the house. And of course when you use the ground solar panels you have to enhance these too, as @jpkarlsen stated. As an extra you can try to change the rooftiles on your house too. All in all by doing so I turned my houses in very eco friendly and was able to cut down the bills.

    Have fun playing. 😉

  • @jpkarlsen No, they're the one's on the roof, so breaking shouldn't be an issue. I have the wind turbines updated so that they don't break and so that they can handle lightning strikes too, but they still just don't seem to generate energy.

@Trismagistos I have everything upgraded to be energy efficient if it is an option (I refuse to do the fuel one because it takes way too much energy to be constantly be filling the fuel source). I also have auto-lights on, so if she isn't in rooms the lights aren't on. All the solar panels are on the roof, not on the ground (she lives partially over the ocean). I always try to use products that are green or close to green. I am basically using the same house that I use for a lot of my college sims so that they don't spend a whole lot of money on their utilities/bills, but for some reason this time around things are different. Same appliances, same upgrades, same size of house, yet this game is acting like none of these upgrades and none of my tech exists.

@coltsfan017 That looks quiet peculiar. Could you by any chance see a possibility to upload/attach a screenshot of the plot. I also have a lot in Sulani, the one of 50x50 tiles and it took me a lot of tinkering and adding to gain a positive eco footprint. I didn't notice any differences after the updates but I will keep my eyes open.
