I went back to Sims 2 after a couple of not very happy years of playing Sims 3.
Finally, I could download CC and much of it was wonderful. It pretty much gave me a new game. But - meshes :s they all got mixed up. I must have spent enough hours to occupy a long-term full time job sorting them and everything else out.
I had separate games too, Fantasy, Goth, whatever, each with its own batch of CC. I had the bright but belated idea of including pictures in my CC master files to make identification easier.
I went back to Sims 3 after a while, some new EPs had made it much more fun but it still needed some CC. So it was the same rigmarole over again.
I got an external hard drive and backed everything up on it. How super-efficient.
I haven't touched either Sims 2 or 3 for probably about three years now and am unlikely to.
As much as I loved them and some of the CC their day has gone for me. I remember, too, how cunningly that CC was pictured. A lot was disappointing when I finally saw it in the game. Poor meshes, bad photoshop, clipping (gaaaah), hair that caused the game to crash.
And freckles - Sims are tiny. How many sets of freckles do they really need?
I'm taking much more care with Sims 4. Their meshes are ok, they just need a few more colour/texture options, for me anyway.
Plus we get patches and whatnot whether or not we want them so I like to keep things simple.
I am reluctantly considering getting rid of some lovely custom hair because the Sims using it end up with baseball caps and odd outfits before I can even get them into their new houses :(
