Just updated the game today
I took a chance and foolishly felt safe to update after seeing reports from other simmers that it was safe to update. I acknowledge the risks with playing with mods, I know I should have just stayed offline, in fact it was better to do so so I wouldn't have to deal with the marketplace stuff being in my face. I did everything I was supposed to. I took my mods and cc out, updated the game, deleted the cache, launched the game, exited the game, deleted the cache again, let the game generate a new resource file and mod folder, updated all of my mods, moved them into the new mod folder. I launched the game with my mod folder out of the game, went to options to enable mods and mysteriously it was already enabled. I thought, hmm, that's weird. I exited the game without saving, put my fresh and updated mod folder back into the game, and then launched it again. Bald sims. I went into options to double check that script mods are enabled, it was still checked off. I clicked "view mods and cc" and see it is empty. I didn't panic until I exited the game to check my actual mods folder. IT WAS EMPTY!!!!! THIS UPDATE DELETED THE MAJORITY, NEARLY ALL, OF MY CC AND MODS! Years of collecting, meticulous updating, care, passion.....GONE! This update ruined my game!
I also acknowledge it is my fault for not backing my mods folder up, so that is on me. BUT THE GAME SHOULD NOT HAVE DELETED IT TO BEGIN WITH! In all of my years of playing this game, all the money I've thrown at it....nothing like this has happened!!! I'm mad at myself, but I'm even more angry with these UNNECESSARY marketplace additions that broke it all to begin with!
I doubt this post gets attention from EA and there's nothing they can do about it, but I TRULY HOPE THAT SOMEONE READS THIS WHO IS ON THE FENCE ABOUT UPDATING. DON'T DO IT!!!! I am DEVESTATED!!!
OH. And since I didn't update during the dreaded marketplace crisis last week, I was not affected by the failure to launch catastrophe. This hotfix that was supposed to "fix" that....Yeah, the hotfix doesn't even work because I received the error message everyone was talking about. My game did, indeed, fail to launch. Had to jump through hoops to bypass that. That didn't bother me, I figured it was just one of those things to power through. BUT LOSING MY CC AND MODS?? My most beloved sims and builds, GONE?! NOOOO! Well, basically gone. Sure, the shells of them will be there, but you know what I mean.
I don't care about the marketplace! I want my cc back!! 😭😭
