Mac Keeps Freezing Whenever I Open My Sims 4 Mods Folder

I was in the middle of merging my cc using the S4Studio when all of the sudden my macbook froze and my finder wasnt responding anymore, i couldnt force quit my finder because my whole mac froze so i restarted it (using the power button and command method) and tried to open my external harddrive (Seagate 2TB external hard drive) where my sims 4 and mods are located at same thing happened it froze my whole mac and had to restart it again, is there anyway i could fix this? this isnt a virus is it? i dont get cc in sketchy websites, never go to cc links with an adfly stuck with it and never downloaded any weird apps. i really need help ive spent lots of days finding cc )):
