Many Build Items Removed (game ver. 1.105.345.1020)

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.105.345.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? EP: Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Get Famous, Island Living. GP: Spa Day, Dine Out, Vampires, Parenthood, Jungle Adventure. SP: Luxury Party, Perfect Patio, Cool Kitchen, Movie Hangout, Romantic Garden, Backyard, Vintage Glamour, Bowling Night, Fitness, Laundry Day, My First Pet.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to play my old lots in Willow Creek, and many build items removed.
What happens when the bug occurs? In One Orchard Lane lot: 431 build mode items removed and 90 build mode items substituted/replaced. In Hallow Slough lot: 108 build mode items removed and 27 build mode items substituted/replaced.
What do you expect to see? Of course all of the items to stay, since I haven't deleted any of CCs.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I found that many items on 2 (maybe more, I haven't checked) of my lots on Willow Creek (played from my early playthrough of The Sims 4 and BEFORE I bought all of that DLCs other than Seasons in 2022) are removed. On the biggest house/lot named One Orchard Lane there are 431 build mode items removed and 90 build mode items substituted/replaced and that is massive! I lost entire windows and doors, many sofas, and many more items that I haven't noticed. Yes, I do use a lot of CCs (mods) but I never removed them, and those windows and doors are also not even a CC nor newly-bought DLC items. This is frustrating and heartbreaking since I can't do anything to recover it. I wanted to try a method by saving the lot to my gallery but doing that will only take me to Build Mode first (so those items will be removed), and then save it to the gallery. So that method won't work at all.

Last time I played Sims 4 was back in 2022, and I don't remember getting that "Items Removed" pop-up message in my Willow Creek lots. Now in 2024, I just updated the game version to latest, updating script mods, and try to continue my Sims journey mainly on Del Sol Valley with community-downloaded lot and it worked fine (though some CAS items were removed for unknown reasons that I currently don't really care enough). Thus it surprised me when I came to my old lots and found out that many of items are removed, so I'm currently paused (again) playing The Sims 4 until this case is fixed.

  • Info about my specific lots in Willow Creek that had items removed:
    - One Orchard Lane: is a gallery-downloaded lot with furnitures, then I expand it myselves using new items from Seasons DLC and CCs.
    - Hallow Slough: is created from scratch using some CCs.
    • There's another played households on another region but I haven't checked it, as my lots in Willow Creek are the most important.
  • Fixing attempts I have tried:
    1. Disabling all of CCs and script mods -- doesn't work, it only causes more items removed (confirming that it is not a CC/mod that causing this)
    2. Try to test build items CC by removing them (around 1,300 in total) -- doesn't work (confirming that the windows, doors, sofas, etc. are NOT a CC)
    3. Disabling all of my 2022 DLCs using 'launch options' on Steam -- turns out that since 2022 my saves are already detected of using all that DLCs so it prompted me that there's a risk that my save could be corrupted when I try to play and save it, so I still tried to play my save without the DLCs and not saving it, and the items are still removed -- doesn't work

@nativecoruscant  That's odd that Sims 4 wouldn't be on Revo's list.  I've seen other reports of it, but typically when the EA App says the game isn't installed either, for example when an antivirus has quarantined the executable and therefore neither the App nor Revo can find it.

At any rate, the alternative approach is to manually delete the folder(s) in question, or let Steam uninstall the game; and then remove all Sims 4-related entries from your computer's registry with Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine).  That should give you the same fresh start that Revo would.

It sounds like the missing items might not have an entirely different cause though.  Do you have any idea which items are disappearing, at least some of them?  Perhaps you might be able to get an idea from the Gallery screenshots.  EA-made items (not cc) shouldn't disappear as long as you still have the associated packs installed, and 400 items is a lot to have vanish no matter how much cc you'd previously installed.

It is of course possible that at least some of the disappearing items are from cc that you've always used but had to update at some point.  For example, all cc beds broke in one patch, and while a batch fix would have preserved your existing cc collection, I'm not certain the game would recognize the items as the same as the originals in your old builds.

  • @puzzlezaddict I am very very sorry I know you're gonna have a big facepalm hearing this, turns out all of them are my mods/CC back from 2 years ago where I left it on another folder. I think back in the day I was exhausted of getting too much CCs when it starts breaking my build mode, it became a really low on fps. Now that I've tried to restore my thousands of old mods, the items removed reduced drastically to just 17. Now here's my problem(s):

    1. I don't want to use many thousands of mods again, 80-90% of them are unused. What kind of tool to effectively resolve this problem by keeping only used mods on my lot (+ household) and how do I use it?
    2. My CC windows and doors are clipped. It should've been passthrough, instead the walls are persistent and I can only see frames, how to fix this?

    Edit:

I've found answers to my problems:

    1. I saved those 2 lots to My Library then open them in S4TI, do a manual selection of mods which are used in those lots then delete the rest of my mods.
    2. I used Sims 4 Studio, then go to Content Management > Batch Fixes > Objects > Fix Windows and Doors (Star Wars Patch), then Run. These programs are so helpful.

Anyway I skipped those 17 items on One Orchard Lane and 9 items on the other one, I don't really care what those were. Thank you for your advices and sorry I've been making mistakes and confusions in this case. Hopefully there will be no other problems ahead as I plan to purchase more DLCs.

@nativecoruscant  I'm just glad you got it fixed, because losing so much work on that lot would have been upsetting for anyone.  It's not easy to keep track of all the game's content, let alone a giant pile of custom content, so I'm not surprised that this happened.  The trick with S4TI is helpful to know as well.

  • @puzzlezaddict Yeah, I stopped playing The Sims 4 for 2 years so that problem will be more likely to happen.

This might probably a silly question but I want to know. Is there a point buying DLCs on Steam when I already own them on EA and/or Epic? When the same DLC is owned on Steam and EA/Epic which one will EA app install? I am prioritizing and currently playing through Steam right now.

@nativecoruscant  When you install the game through Steam, your Steam-owned packs install as well, unless you explicitly deselect them.  In the case of a duplicate pack, the EA App should recognize that you own the pack through Steam and let that override the EA copy, listing the pack as "Manage through Steam" rather than allowing you to download it.  But even if not, the App should see the pack is already installed (through Steam) and not try to install it again.

Having said that, I don't know why you'd spend more money to buy the content through Steam when you already own it.  You're still going to need to use the EA App, and there's no difference in how the packs work once they're installed, so you're not getting any benefit to adding them to your Steam library.
