Mermaid sim being reset to human & Unenrolled from University upon load

I have a household of four university students. Every time I open the save file, one of my sims, specifically the mermaid, gets switched back to human and unenrolled from university. There are no pop-ups of her being suspended or anything, I just look over at the 'job' tab in her information and it's completely unemployed, and when they lived in dorms it would immidiately prompt her to start packing and leave. If I cheat to instant enroll her in university again she starts back at her first term with no progress.

I have some mods, but I've tried removing the ones relevant to both mermaids and university (expanded mermaids and university enrollment overhaul) and neither fixed the issue. I'm hesitant to try running the game with no mods, as I'm worried it might break my save (especially removing custom content.)

Any advice on what I could try before going to extremes would be appreciated.
