My mods folder completely disappeared after update??!

checked this morning and my folder was there, everything was fine. But I just went to load my game after another update, everything had been reset to default, back to full screen mode, mods off "as usual per update" and my screen resolution was set to far too big, I tried to change it all and it just went white screen. I thought it was strange I task managed it and checked all my mods in my "mods" folder are gone, just the recourse file. it's as if my game just reset itself completely? I repaired the game and still nothing, my mods are gone, not in my recycle bin or anything!!! my graphics.cfg file is gone too as if the game is loading up for the first time. WHERE ARE MY MODS?????? I had over 150gb and my game was running completely fine last night until the update. Im seriously thinking of quitting this game every update breaks the game so much that it's unplayable

  • @vampyxangel - That is really strange. I've never heard of that happening. There may not be a way to get them back, but once you have your mods reinstalled, I would recommend creating a backup folder and store it in a different location. Perhaps on a USB/SD device, or in a different part of your Documents folder. That way, if it happens again, you can simply copy your mods back from the backup.

  • @vampyxangel Some questions to get you in the right support area with needed info. I've moved you to Mod Issues for now just so I don't miss a reply, but no mod will be the cause of this. It's also not something the game is designed to do when it updates, but we can help you prevent it happening again. With some luck, we might also help you find your old content.

    1. PC or Mac?
    2. Were your previous saves also gone?
    3. Do you use anything like OneDrive or another syncing program?
    4. Have you done a search of your PC for the file name of a particular mod?

Note that if your computer system tries to delete a really, really big folder, it won't get stored in the bin; it will get outright deleted. This isn't specific to Sims 4 at all.

@luthienrising - No doubt. They said they had over 150GB of mods. That's massive. If it's gone, it's very gone. I can't even imagine that much modding. My mods folder is 2.55GB and it seems like a lot of stuff.

  • @vampyxangel - Another thing to note, If you didn't/don't already have it, I would recommend getting Tmex's Better Exceptions. When an update happens, it can scan for, and identify, broken mods and direct you to updates for those mods when they release. It makes patch days a good bit less painful by tracking mod updates, conflicts and errors for you. Also, again, be sure to create a backup of your mods folder once you're back up and running.
