My sims game refuses to start/work properly

I play on my PC and I haven’t been able to get my game working since March when I updated. Upon opening my game I get an error message saying game data is broken or missing. When I first got it, I assumed it was from the CC I just downloaded and added, so I removed it, but the issue still persisted. I saw that the problem was from my CAS cc folder, so i performed the 50/50 method after removing the rest of my mods and cc, and I “found” the culprit. After removing it and adding everything back, I still had the same issue, so I did it again. After a few tries, I finally got my game to actually open and not crash/show an error message; but after I loaded into the world, I was unable to see any sims apart from the one I was playing with. The sims would be invited to my sims apartment, their moodlets would show up and doors would open, but I was unable to see any of them. Furthermore, when ever I would try to add any cc to my mods folder, I would recieve the same error message and be stuck at the beginning.

Now, I’ve decided to tackle my problem again and it’s still the same. I’ve updated my origin and Sims 4 game. I’m going the 50/50 method with my CAS cc folder; but what’s weird is that after taking out a few folders I won’t get the error message, but the game will crash on the loading screen, and then if I try to run the game again without touching anything, the error message returns.

I’ve been unable to play my game for 2 months now and I don’t think I want to restart my mods folder again.

  • Let's rule out some common issues that might be complicating your process.

First, remove any Sims mod managing software and make sure you don't have anything like OneDrive accessing your game: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-technical-issues-pc-en/current-issue-sims-4-savesuser-content-disappearing-pc/11838402

Then, do some tests in a clean user folder:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
    2. Launch Sims 4. You should get no list of mods on launch, and you should have no option to load a previous save. Reset your Options.
    3. Start with New to test if your issue recurs in a new game.
    4. If it doesn't, run a Game Repair and test again.

If that works, start putting old content back:

    1. Exit and copy files out of your old Saves folder into the new Saves folder. Important: Don't just copy the old folder! You want to use the newly created folders.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and use Load to select an older save to test.

If you're then having no issues, you can test mods, but first get rid of known problems:

    1. Check Previously Broken and delete those.
    2. Check Broken & Updated Mods & CC for more recent issues and currently needed updates. Since you've had this problem since the previous patch, check this list too: 1.113 Broken & Updated
    3. Now copy the files out of the old Mods folder into the new folder in batches with any mods they depend on (injectors and core mods, for example). Don't copy your old Resource.cfg file. If you delete any mods from the new folder, delete the file called localthumbcache. Check the instructions on 50-50 testing here: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-mods-and-custom-content-en/info-how-to-use-mods-and-cc/9360653/replies/9360660
