my sims won't interact

My Sims won't interact with each other. Everytime I click on them to do something with the other Sim in the household they just reset, it is like this for all of my households. Every time I have a Sim pick up her infant she just puts her back down immediately.

I've tried repairing my game and nothing is fixing this issue.

  • @mpkelley    Hi!  On which platform are you playing?  Console (PS4, PS5, Xbox)?  Or PC / Mac?  If you're playing on PC / Mac, do you have any mods or CC installed?

  • I play on a MAC and yes I do, but I haven't downloaded any recently and this problem just started happening

Hi @mpkelley ! Older game mods and CC that aren't compatible anymore because of game updates can cause this to happen. A couple that I know break infant interactions are Fixed Nyx's Enhanced Aliens and Children can live alone after all elders died, but there are definitely going to be others, including some that have been updated. Delete those two if you have them (and delete localthumbcache), and if it's still a problem, do a test without mods/CC at all. After exiting Sims 4, drag your Mods folder to your desktop. Then delete the file called localthumbcache from Document > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. If you think you might accidentally forget to exit without saving after testing, copy your Saves folder to your desktop too, to back it up. Now open Sims 4 and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, you can start the process of figuring out what from your Mods folder was causing it.

@mpkelley   Got it.  Please test the game without mods just to make sure they aren't causing the problem.  The easiest way to do this is by following these steps:

    - Move your Mods folder to the desktop

    - Delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder

    - Launch the game (a new Mods folder will be created with only the "resource" file)

    - Check to see if your game save is working properly

-- If things are working as they should, use "Save as" in game options to create a save you can use for testing; name it something like "Mod Testing" (note do not use the "Save" option because this could make unintended changes to your save without mods installed)

-- If things are still not working without any mods, please come back and update here

    - If the game is working properly without any mods, then you can start testing them a little bit at a time by launching the "Mod Testing" save you just created; click the spoiler below for steps I use to test Mods/CC

    Spoiler

    1. Create a new game (or use "Save as") for testing so that your current save is left unchanged until you've identified the problem mods/CC.

    2. Create some folders on your desktop; perhaps one labeled "Tested Safe Mods-CC", another labeled "Mods-CC Needs Testing" and one more labeled "Broken Mods-CC" so you know which ones to check for updates. This will keep tested mods/CC separated.

    3. Exit the game if you haven't already, and divide your mods/CC in half; put one half in the Needs Testing folder and put/keep the other half into the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder.

    4. Delete the localthumbcache.package file, located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game with the half you're testing,

    5. If the game works with that half, exit the game, move that half to the Safe Mods-CC folder and move the remaining "Needs Testing" mods back to the Mods folder to test (Again, delete that cache file before opening the game.)

    6. Once you know which half is causing the issue, divide those in half, keeping one half in the "Needs Testing" folder and one half in your Mods folder, and test again (delete the cache file each time after moving mods/CC and before opening the game) and moving mods/CC not causing problems into the Safe folder.

    7. Repeat this process until you find all that are broken.

EDIT: @luthienrising   Apologies.  It seems we were replying at the same time and I didn't see your post until after I replied.

@JonaO703 No worries 🙂 I'd been just looking at some things that broke Infants an hour ago, so it was sitting there in my head.
