Objects: Sellability in GTW

I don't have GtW myself but I'd like (some of) my custom objects to be sellable for GtW users. The info I have about what determines that exactly is a little vague; can anyone tell for sure?

Pretty sure it's the object tuning that determines that -- are objects that use object_Sculpture_NoView 0x000000000001ABB7 sellable or not?

That tuning reads

110393

106859

so to me that looks like they should be sellable (what else would "retail_component enabled" mean?), but I have also read that "objects that have no interactions in game cannot be sold" .. is that correct or is it bogus? (I suspect the actual difference is whether or not an object has any tuning at all, nothing to do with the interactions, but I can't test that myself for obvious reasons .. )
  • Well, the no view sculpture objects, or at least the one of them I tested, are sellable. But then they do have an SA listed there in the XML you posted (106859 = simRay_Transform_Object), so perhaps that object tuning isn't a valid example. The 119383 retail component snippet referenced (which is in the BG XML so you can check that out) adds the actual SAs for selling and so forth.

Had a few minutes before work so just as a test, I overrode the tuning for object_Sculpture_NoView to remove the _super_affordances list but leave the retail component snippet. It is no longer sellable, so even though it has tuning if there's no SAs at all you can't sell it in retail shops.

ETA - Perhaps it's not obvious, but just having an SA makes the retail component work - it doesn't matter if the interaction is available or not (for testing I didn't have a sim ray, so even though that interaction didn't appear the selling interactions still showed up). So if you don't want your object to have any actions available other than selling you could just add a custom interaction to the SA list that has a global test that never allows it to actually show up.
  • Thank you!

I should have been more specific above -- the Simray thing doesn't bother me (I doubt I will ever have a sim with a simray in my game anyway), so if I can just use that tuning that's perfect. I only wouldn't want "View" or somesuch showing up on every toilet brush I make =P

I was confused because here it says "you can't sell things that are purely decorative and can't be clicked" and that all sounds like they were talking about regular gameplay, nothing involving simrays and stuff .. so I was wondering whether there would be some GtW specific affordance for the selling that I don't know about.

Thanks for the in-depth info =D
  • i sell statues, paintings, furniture, toys, clothes, anything i can buy i sell with no problem. hth! ;)
