"Practice" option on all instruments disappears

I made a new game with two new sims and put one of them in the acting career. I picked the country commercial for my first gig, bought a guitar, and noticed whenever I would practice my sim's guitar points wouldn't go up. When my sim put the guitar down the option to practice was completely gone.

I reset my sim, traveled and came back to the lost, bought another guitar, turned off mods and cc, still didn't work.

My second sim (not in the acting career) was able to level up on the keyboard just fine, but when they used one of the guitars they ran into the same problem and now neither of them can gain any skill points.

  • HI @Chante1228

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.
  • Thank you! That seems to have fixed it! Can I put that save back into the game so I can get those sims or should I just abandon it all together?

First only put back your save game

    Copy all content from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old\Saves to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Saves

If there's a duplicate because of the new save you created, either just overwrite the file if you don't want to keep the new save or rename the new one to a different number that hasn't been used.

Now test again. If it still works, you can put the following folders back (just copy the content like you have done for the saves to their respective folders

    - Screenshots

    - Recorded Videos

    - Tray (your houses and households)

    - Custom Music if you have any

    Test again.

If it still works you can move on to your mods folder.

Copy stuff back in groups. Start with CC, most should be fine., then your mods but do make sure they are compatible

and here's a tutorial with pics for the whole process: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/resetting-the-game-to-factory-settings-without-reinstalling/

  • I did what you said, but as soon as I put the saves in the problem came back.
I think what was causing the problem was the "Brooding" trait. It wasn't showing up in The Sims Tray importer and I couldn't find it in my Mods folder but I gave the trait to a few sims and ran into the same issue.
It hasn't spread to the second sim this time around so I just made a twin of the glitched sim without the trait and deleted the original. I haven't played on it long but hopefully it doesn't pop up again

@Chante1228 Did you just put the saves back without the mods you had ? Normally traits should be replaced if they are missing.

Did the Sims just not have a trait or was the brooding still showing up on the Sims without mods/cc ?
