Re: Bugged every day outfits. Unable to fix.

I've only seen anything like this once, and then it was on an alien child aging up to teen.  I wasn't having her wear the default alien outfit, so when she aged up she got a bra and no undies! and I don't have that "remove mosaic censor" mod but yes, there was uncensored Barbie doll nudity on the lower half.

Going into CAS and giving her a new outfit sort of fixed it, in that when I came out of CAS she was still naked in the front yard (!!!!) but telling her to change into everyday fixed it.

They're not aliens, are they?

No, we don't have that expansion.   It does sound similar to what you had happen with your alien child aging up to teen, but we also haven't changed in age on our characters.  Its frustrating when you think you've fixed it in CAS then when you get back to game you're sitting there nearly naked again.    Just wondering, do aliens have a special default outfit category?  I can't check since we don't have that expansion.  If they do then what you had happen may be very similar to this but less permanent since you could fix it..  It really seems like part of our former special career outfit got stuck and overwrote nearly all of the every day outfit pieces..

We haven't been able to cause the bug again in a test save, but since we noticed it always wears the bracelet and necklace from an old career outfit that's not even set up anymore we're starting to test with career outfits to see if we can break it that way & maybe have an idea how to fix it once we know how to cause the bug.     I am still worried it was the Get Famous expansion that triggered the bug though since that's when it started happening or maybe a combination of that expansion and a mod we had.

We haven't played other than trying fixes and testing since this bug hit since we don't want to go back to an old save from several days ago just to have it happen again without knowing what caused it, .and also don't want to progress on our current messed up save if theres no fix to it & we don't know what we did to cause it so it may start affecting other outfits.   We haven't added any of the mods back either which kind of wrecks our game and live in club anyway.

I have a video  showing this bug and screenshots showing how in CAS it's fine in there.   The video shows being in the formal outfit at first which is fine, then pulling up the outfit change menu which shows the every day outfits being normal in the menu.     Once we change to the every day outfit we lose everything except the bra, bracelet and necklace and it shows that mostly nude version in the outfit changer too (but not in CAS still).  Switching back to the formal outfit then restores the outfit change menu to look normal until we switch back to every day.then its messed up again.    The video is in a game with no mods or CC loaded too.

Do you think it's OK to post the video and screenshots here and maybe it might help figure out what happened?   We can probably censor the video somewhat first too, though it doesn't really show anything since it's just barbie doll lower half nudity.  I wasn't sure if that was fine to post or not so I left it out.

I don't work for EA so I don't think I'm qualified to say whether the pics would be okay or not! sorry!

Yes, aliens have a special alien outfit that they wear as every outfit, only, you know, she was being raised by a human family so she "went native" and I gave her all human outfits.  This is an image off teh intarwebs (apparently it's from the Sim Citizens site, sorry y'all, have a link! https://simcitizens.com/creating-aliens-in-the-sims-4-get-to-work/):

Creating Aliens in The Sims 4 Get to Work - simcitizens

I found a pic, and I'm trying to decide if the pose she's in hides enough to make it safe for the forums!  She has no accessories, just the default orange bra and no censor mosaic on her lower half.

Er, here's a link--CM, if this is too much for the forums I apologize profusely! and please remove it.  https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/735942485385412660/797750353520885790/unknown.png

Oh we do have that expansion I thought the alien one was one by itself I didn't realize it was part of the Get To Work expansion.   Our characters aren't aliens but it does make me wonder if it's something related like maybe a mod did something that may have overwritten our every day outfit section with something in the alien section that for some reason imported accessories from our career section lol   I don't know, it's so strange that CAS can't even fix it.

That picture is  like what we see on our Sims now for every one of the every day outfits except for we have a bracelet and necklace.  Sometimes we can get a 2nd bracelet, hat, or glasses too on outfit slot 2, 3, 4 or 5, but never any pants, undies or shirt.

I've uploaded the video to Youtube to show this bug in action.   I censored the bottom part though there's nothing shown anyway.  Still, in case someone has never seen a barbie doll with no pants and gets the shocked reaction like Sims do,  I don't want anyone to die of embarrassment!    The outfits all look correct in CAS and you can see in the video they look fine in the outfit chooser until you're wearing an every day outfit then that outfit changes to the messed up one even in the outfit chooser.  It still shows correctly in CAS though.    For a while changing to the everyday outfit would mess up the entire outfit list showing all of the every day outfits messed up.   Now it displays them fine in the chooser except the one you're wearing but still has each outfit messed up once you wear it.  You can see the other outfits in the other categories work fine.  It's just the every day outfits.   This was with no CC and no mods.

Hope this video link works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6sIyaGJuqs

Maybe this video can help figure out what caused it and what to do about it.   I wish there was some way to edit the save file, I'm still looking into that too.  Maybe it could be fixed that way.  Or at least just reset all outfits back to random default ones clearing out anything leftover.  Not sure that can be done though.

I just want to say sometimes can a mod (normally only script-mods) backed in your save game + sim. Is especially rare and think this modders earn a reward if they achieve this. If this is so, your only option is to delete the sim/savegame and make a new. Have you tried to make a twin from you bugged sim?

Ah... another question: Your sim had only 4 create outfits in his everyday or? I encounter that if you have 5 outfit, and this sim joins a club with a club-outfit that your outfits ... can break (this occur too in a vanilla game) Since then, I give my sims only 4 outfits for each section if they join clubs with club-outfits.

OK, yeah, so... have you tried deleting your localthumbnailcache.package file out of your The Sims 4 folder? (Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4)

I would suggest deleting that file and seeing if it helps.  If not, maybe delete the file again and try with no mods or CC.  If that fixes it, you can re-add your mods in small batches so you can figure out if one of them is causing the issue.  (I've also heard of people putting in half their mods at a time, which is probably faster.)

I recently had an issue where (LOL) all woohoo resulted in babies, even with elders, despite not having mods set to do that, and deleting the localthumbnailcache.package seems to have helped.  (fingers crossed!)

(P.S.  Your censor image made me laugh!)

  • In the video I had 4 outfits set up because I had been deleting and adding outfits testing stuff.  I think at the time I first noticed the bug I only had a couple set up in the every day section.   One of the sims in our household was brand new to the household too so she only had 1 or 2 set up as well.  I'm fairly certain our other sims didn't have 5 set up when the bug happened but I'm not 100% sure about that.   Not sure if we set up a club outfit. I don't remember doing that but she may have so I'll check in game.

I did try a few more things last night with the sims.  I noticed when using some tray file utility that lets you track down cc used on your sim (we had none listed) that in the long list of items that I'm assuming were all outfits use by our sims the yfBottom_Nude thing was there even though none of our sims are actually set up in CAS to use it other than the bugged outfits.  I didn't see other body parts listed as outfits in there but could have just missed them and this could mean nothing.

Another thing I noticed in testing last night is like what you suggested, making a twin.   Several days ago when I imported a sim from the gallery  someone had made  I saw it wasn't affected, so it's specific to our current sims.   Last night I separated an affected one one from the household, saved it to the gallery, then imported her back and the newly imported one while she lost all of her relationship status was not bugged. She did keep her skills and all of that though.    I tried that with the entire household I had to delete nearly all of them first though since we had 6 so importing all 6 would be more than the 8 allowed.  It did seem to work though!  They lost all of their relationships though with all the other NPC sims and each other.

One question I have about doing that is are there any negative consequences other than losing the relationships that I can fix pretty easy?    I saw their skills, fame, and traits and all of that were fine but we're pretty new to the sims 4 so I may be unaware of some other things that may need to be fixed.   Before doing that and committing it to a save I want to make sure whatever I may need to adjust is something that can be adjusted.. If it's just a few minor things that I can fix in the cheat console or with MCCC then we'll definitely do that so we can get back to playing again.

Ty both of you for the suggestions and help btw!  Having a couple others see the bug and give ideas of things to try is very helpful in tracking down something like this.  Being pretty new to the sims it was feeling a little overwhelming without us knowing whether or not anyone else had experienced stuff like this recently or having much to go on when trying to track it down.   Seeing the alien sim have that happen an the suggestions were very very helpful!

I did delete that localthumbnailcache.package before a few times and sadly it didn't fix it either.   I also removed the entire The Sims folder in the Documents section to reset the game entirely, then moved the 1 save back and it was still affected.  It seems its something stuck in our save files attached to our sims..    Since it looks like it's just our household sims in those save files and not new ones imported I think the save is sort of fixable doing what was tried last night with saving our sims to the gallery, deleting them in game and importing them from the gallery one by one.   That seemed to fix their outfits when I tested that last night and kept their skills and other traits and stats.  It did mess up all of their relationships though.   I'm not sure what else it would mess up so I haven't done that then saved & started playing that save yet.  So we may have something that will work.   As long as whatever it messes up importing them again is fixable by MCCC or in the console we'll probably do that today so we can start playing again.

Oh wow, all woohoo resulting in babies would be a funny bug to have but I can see that getting out of hand quickly lol   We've found some funny bugs like that, and a really funny one on XBox.  The xbox one I guess wasn't a bug more than it was sloppy typing when using the outfits.copy_outfit command that caused her sim to go to work wearing absolutely nothing at all.   It was an embarrassing day and her sim was not happy when returning from work.   It was easily fixed in CAS but once we figured out what she had typed we had to play with that a bit more in other outfit slots and had some hilarious interactions with NPCs and the things they would do over the course of a night when the other person was sleeping without pjs.  The house was cleaned, several pots of coffee were brewed and the computer was broken all in one night by her soulmate Liberty who just couldn't handle being in bed for more than a minute or two without being shocked and getting up to react lol    After having many laughs trying that out she had to fix the outfits in CAS or it would've been a hard to have a normal game again.  That or we would've both died of laughter IRL watching the soulmate NPCs run around the house like crazy exercising, cleaning and brewing coffee every night.

That censor image made me laugh too, that kapwings editor had such a perfect emoji for censoring that video I couldn't resist using it.

    @BitzyBanana

So, I've imported Sims from one save to another.

Basically:  They keep their skills and any aspiration reward traits, and relationships with anyone in their household.  They lose their household and personal inventories, and relationships with anyone outside their household. (Yeah, we lost our death flowers and angelfish, but their save was totally bugged from a bluescreen while saving.)

You can save multiple households to your tray, and multiple houses, and then import them and cheat their relationships back.  Some people create a room in the house to put all the inventory stuff.

Basically, the first time I tried it I used the instructions at the bottom of this page:  https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/tutorials/rotational-play.php  "Moving to a New Save File."

Thank you for that link and reminding me about the inventory! I would have definitely forgotten about that.  That site seems to have a lot of other good information on it too,  going to definitely look around on there a bit for more tips.

Also, thank you both @xochiquetzl_xkvn and @daikoyu  for being so helpful!    It's fixed now and I am 100% sure without you two helping us with things to try and ideas of what might have caused it we'd have given up by now and probably reverted to an old old save AND probably had the same problem happen again!

While I was importing the household back into that world I left the club leader as the only one left that was bugged so I didn't lose our club and all the club traits and stuff like that.  As soon as I added the twin to the club it bugged her.   Then I remembered what was mentioned about club outfits.  I knew we hadn't been really using those but it made me wonder if we had ever set one and if we had what ours was set to.   Wow it jogged my memory big time going into there.  The same exact bracelet and necklace were the only 2 items in our club outfit still.  It hadn't been causing a problem at all until a few days ago.   We had been wanting to see if it would just add that to the outfit we had on at the time and I guess when it didn't we just always used the every day outfits or other outfits anyway.    Maybe when we were copying outfits around we hit that 5 outfit limit on the every day and it bugged that category forcing the club outfit there.  Even tho we never kept 5  just having 5 briefly when  getting some new CC To try out and copying stuff around may have bugged it.  I'm not sure.

As soon as I removed the club outfit and set it to None in the club settings all of our sims were instantly fixed.    I feel like an idiot for not checking that earlier but we hadn't even used the club outfit and didn't even finish it  so we had totally forgotten it even existed.

So thank you both so much, it's nice to be able to play again and know what caused it.

It’s nice you fix it. This bug with the club outfits is not a knew well bug. I don’t think I ever saw a bug report for. This bug is light to reproduce but most user never encounter it because they never have 5 outfits. I never created a report for because I think is wasted time for the overworked bug-fixing team.

Sure, as user it’s frustrating if you run in this and don’t find a report to and other blame it on your mods, because no, is not because of your mods. It’s a not know vanilla bug/feature.
