Recurrence of old bug
When you attempt to read to the child, even if the book is in the parents inventory, they will instead go to the bookcase, put the book away, and then get a ? over their heads. Even tried locking them in a room with the kids, so that one bookshelf, a place to sit and read to the kids, everything that has been suggested no longer works.
Personally, i blame EA because of the broken way they cannibalized the game in order to create more DLC that we have to purchase in order to get a function game.
Pretty sure (99.999% likely) the Parenthood DLC plus other content that was released is what broke parenting for base game players.
As a side note, I doubt we will see better with next Sims, as they have made it obvious that they only care about fleecing their customers, rather than release a game that functions even at 20% ability.
