Sims 4 build mode not working

So, lately I've been having some trouble with the build mode in the Sims 4; wanted to know if it was just me or if it's something that has been happening to anybody else. Long story short, whenever I get into build mode I pretty much can't do anything; I can't buy things, I can't sell things, I can't go back to live mode. All I can do is move things from place and... that's about it. I have no CC, but I do have a few mods that change a bit the gameplay, however never before it happened this. I recently took the time to change the ones that needed update, however I'm still a bit scared to try the game because I'm pretty sure it'll still not be working. I really don't wanna play without mods, personally it takes away all the fun, so I wanted to know if somebody knows anyway to solve this.

There is a high probability that this behavior is related to an outdated or broken mod.  Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to most of these problems. I think you need to look at your mods to find out what is going on in your game.

As always make a backup of your game data before you start tweaking your game to have a fallback option if you don't like the result.

Try the following, to see whether your game works without mods:

    1. Move all your mods and CC somewhere safe (there's no need to delete them!) such as a folder on your desktop so you can easily find them again.
    2. Make sure to delete your localthumbcache.package file.
    3. Once done, start up your game and test to see if the error still appears.

Your game will probably work flawless without mods. If that's the case you have to go through your mods and find the culprit. The 50/50 search might be a good method for this task to get a result in a reasonable time.

    Attention:

All modded content will disappear from the game if you remove it, so if sims are wearing CC it will vanish while you're testing.

Because of this it's really important that you do not save the game while testing.

That way your CC will still be there when you bring your mods back into your game.

  • I have this same issue after the last update. My settings UI is also messed up and I can't change my graphics settings either. I tested my game both with and without Mods and the issue still persists either way.

@Sulsul5219 Please try this test to rule out any leftover mod causes:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options.
    3. Start with New to test if your issue recurs in a new game.

  • I went through all my mods and I found the culprit in my games it's called "chingyu" used for hobbies and traits. I kept playing with all my mods removing them and adding them back in until I got to this package/file. OMG I'm so happy I got rid of it and don't have to delete everything else. Everytime I went into build more I couldn't leave!! I also had an issue with my aspirations. I wanted more aspirations and downloaded mods files called "kylifetime", "kynewaspirations" etc. I removed that and my aspirations work again!

@Vankisha1218 Chingyu has many different trait mods. Which mod were you using? Can you give me the exact file name and date of it? There haven't been reports elsewhere of any of her mods causing this, but perhaps it was an older version.

For a replacement for the ky-e mod, try this update of ky-e's mod: Lifetime Aspirations Reworked by NeedCoffee4That (NC4T), available on NC4T's Patreon and on Curseforge.
