Sims 4 leaving Eliza Pancakes house issue

Heyy there, not sure if it's a game issue or a bug issue.

But my last game play, my sims got invited to visit Eliza Pancakes, so I accepted.

When they had to leave (Winter season) I pushed the home button (to go home) and my sims decided to go home by swimming at the pond. and let's just say maybe 2-3 of my sims made it, the rest of my 4 sims died from freezing to death from swimming in the pond to go home (I fast forward as I thought they'll just walk home as per usual) but this time I received a pop up about, this sim is freezing, and I'm like what? sure enough, in the middle of the pond swimming (so it was too late to make them swim back) 

so, my question is, is this a bug or a game issue? and is there a way to fix it? This is not normal haha 
I have tried to repair but not sure if it helped haha as I haven't gone back there yet, but thought to check if it's not just me, or someone else sort of experiencing this?
