sims 4 lots disappearing

i play sims 4 on mac, my lots disappeared after the update and its every lot in the game not just ones with cc. i have tried deleting localthumbnail and moved my sims 4 folder out and opened the game to create a new sims4 folder. i saw a post saying if you rename the lots then save and leave the game they should reappear and that did not work. if i try to remove the most recent save and open the game it shows that there are no loads to pull from as if i never played. i have tried moving my cc out and that did not work either.

i found out i had overwritten the Slot_00000002.save file somehow and that itself was corrupted so even if i tried using an old save  it did not work but luckily i found the original Slot_00000002.save that i had overwritten in my deleted icloud files and just put it back 🥳

  • @HannahTownsend Let's try this one more time but in a specific order:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options.
    3. Start with New to test if your issue recurs.

    If that works:

    1. Exit and copy files out of your old Saves folder into the new Saves folder. Important: Don't just copy the old folder! You want to use the newly created folders.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and use Load to select a save to test, using "Load".

    If that works:

    1. Copy your old Tray files (this is your Library), Screenshots and Videos files.
    2. To test mods, copy the files into the new folder *in batches* with any mods they depend on (injectors and core mods, for example). Don't copy your old resource.cfg file. If you delete any mods from the new folder, delete localthumbcache. Check the instructions on 50-50 testing here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Game-and-Mod-CC-Issues/Mod-and-CC-Issues-Discussion-and-Support-1-103-Dec-5-amp-14-2023/m-p/13271178#M51892

when i did that i had to create a new sims to be able to go in and see and the lots did appear back but it created a new slot save so when i moved my old saves to the new save folder and opened the game it loaded as if it was still the new sim i just played and none of my saves from there so i exited and replaced the newly slot that was made with my old one and my saves loaded but the lots were gone again. (i have not added any mods back in yet)

@HannahTownsend Okay, so just to clarify:

A new save does *not* have the lots disappear, so there's NOT an issue with the game itself. BUT an old save *does* have the lots disappear, and it does that before you add mods back. This suggests to me that one way or another, that old save became corrupted.

Now that you've put the old saves back in, if you load an earlier version of the save (see the instructions here), do the lots appear? This test is to see if you have a recoverable version of your regular game. We'll look at how to put mods back after.

it appears to be! im just adding my mods back now and testing it slowly so hopefully all my lots stay lol

  • Hi this happened to me today after I updated the Sims 4. First my mods were playing up so this is what I did to fix them for Mac.

    Mods

    1. Move the mods folder to desktop and restart your game.

    2. You then open your game as administrator. You do this by pressing control when and clicking start game.

    3. A new mods folder should appear and you copy and paste your old content from you old mods folder into your new mods folder.

    Lots

    1. Moved my saves to my desktop & restart the game.

    2. A new saves folder should appear and you copy all your saves from you previous folder into you new one.
    3. Also remove the thumbnail (not sure if it made a difference).
    4. Restart your game.

it does take it back a few saves but defo better than starting all over !
