Sims 4 Manage Worlds Broken

Whenever I create a sim household and put them in a home, it loads for a while before sending me back to all the available worlds to implement my sim into. If I try again; it just loops the same reaction. I deleted Origin and The Sims 4 plus repaired it and that has made no difference to this issue. I even disabled custom content & script mods and played without them at all and instead of trapping me in manage worlds it just endlessly has a loading screen.

Thanks for your help! I realised I had to update a ton of game mods that weren’t functioning properly aswell as delete the mods that haven’t been updated for years.

  • If you haven't done it so far, you might try a folder reset. If that doesn't work, there is probably no solution for your issue and you have to start over with a complete new save.

Try this and follow the instruction step by step:

    1. Make sure the game is closed
    2. Make a backup of the Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts to an external or flash drive.
    3. Open the folder Documents\Electronic Arts (Path can be different depending on your OS and setup.)
    4. Rename the The Sims 4 folder into The Sims 4_Backup
    5. Start the game.
    6. A new The Sims 4 folder will be recreated in documents\Electronic Arts which the game will recognize.
    7. Test, if the error is still present on a new save game. If the error is still present: Delete the newly generated folder The Sims 4 and rename The Sims 4_Backup to The Sims 4. This will recover the status from before you started this tutorial. Unfortunately, you're done with this tutorial. If the error is gone: Start putting all your old data back into the newly created folder as explained in Step 8.
    8. Copy the files from The Sims 4_BACKUP to The Sims 4, folder per folder. Start with your save games (saves) and test if the error is also gone for your current savegame. The save will be loaded without all your Mods/CC as those are still missing. This means that all your clothing/hair/objects will be removed from your Sims. Always work on a copy of your save because of this until you find the cause of your error.
    9. If the error is still present, it’s possible that your savegame is corrupt or that there’s simply a bug that can’t be solved from your side. Try an older backup if you have one.
    10. Now copy the rest folder by folder and file by file. Not all files need copying back. Some of them are cache files that will be recreated and can be the source of the issue.

Depending on your game style, these are the files/folders which should be restored:

    • Options(.ini): Contains all settings which you did in the Options in your game except the ones that are saved per save game (like aging and autonomy). It’s better to re-set all options manually, but you can also simply copy back the file. Test if the game still runs.
    • Screenshots: The screen shoots you have taken in game.
    • Custom Music: If you have any custom music, put them back.
    • Tray: All your houses, Sims and rooms.  If the game starts to act up again, put each file group back separately and testing afterwards to see what can be saved.
    • ConfigOverride: if you have your own configuration files.
    • Mods: Your custom content or mods.  If the game starts to act up again, use the 50/50 method to find the culprit.

Test after every folder. If the game stops working, you know where to look.

    Good luck.

I’m near the end of the steps to see if I need to delete my save files, just so I am aware in case it doesn’t work, can I delete my saves but keep my household / lots?

It should be save to reuse your households and lots from your library. So, if it's still possible with your old saves, you might save all your creations in CAS or build mode to your tray folder and copy that tray to the new save. Keep in mind if you use CC items with your sims and builds, those items must also be available in your new mods folder, because they are not a part of the tray folder objects and the game is looking for them in the mods folder.

But also keep in mind that while restoring your game that way from the tray, all relationships and achievements of the households will be lost. Those attributes can only be restored with a complete and functional backup file set.

You can also export your sims and lots from your tray folder to zip files using the "Sims 4 Tray Importer" tool (S4TI). S4TI also copies the CC in use with the respective object into the zip archive. This even doesn't require a running game, only the tray/mods folder at the correct location (given that you already saved your lots/hh in your tray).

Sorry it took a while for me to get back, but I naturally realised after I added a lighting mod which requires me to replace the The Sims 4/Data/Shared/Worlds files that the issue may’ve arrived, it gets reset after every update and I updated recently my game but it seems that there’s still an issue, how do I reset my save I guess because I removed all my game saves and kept my tray but it still seems to be having the same issue

@Marceleryy Try doing a clean folder + Game Repair. For the clean folder part, drag your whole The Sims 4 folder out of Electronic Arts to your desktop. Next, do the Game Repair. Then start the game to make a new folder. Test before putting old files into the new folders.

I repaired the game and updated all if not most of my mods and it still seems to be not letting me leave manage worlds. I know the issue is mods because without it, my games runs smoothly like when I did the folder reset but when I did the 50/50 method it didn’t stop messing up my game regardless.

@Marceleryy So any mods at all are causing you an issue in the new folder? Could you try downloading a fresh copy of one mod directly from the creator to test? I'd suggest something like Better Exceptions since it's useful to have in your folder anyway.
