Sims 4 won't play custom music

i didn't have this problem in dec 2015 when it was originally posted & supposedly fixed, but in the last few mos, any custom music i add no longer plays, however the custom music i had added before still plays fine, just nothing added in the last few mos (around the time the mixed music station was added to the game is when i first started noticing that only mp3s added prior to that still play in the game) so if this was fixed at some point, it's definitely broken again now.

@janellewalden76 Do they have the same bit rate ?

@janellewalden76 I moved your post to to game issues for troubleshooting as the thread you posted it was a bit old.

Are the new files maybe in a different format ? I'm not too sure but if it still works with the old files, it could be something about the new ones.

@janellewalden76 S4 only supports .MP3 format as far as I'm aware

@crinrict i checked the ones that do play & the ones that don't in my folder & they're all listed as mp3 format sound

Make sure they aren't in subfolders either, the game won't see it

it has to be done like this (Ex: The Sims 4\Custom Music\Metal\)
Not like this (Ex: The Sims 4\Custom Music\Metal\New folder)

@janellewalden76 Mp3 have different codec format so they could just be incompatible.

You might need to read up on the format a bit. I think there's older threads around that can give you a pointer.

@crinrict i'm not sure what you mean here. when i look at the properties of the mp3s that do play & the ones that don't play, they seem identical to me

@crinrict well, this seems to be an oddity: when i click properties on the mp3s in my custom music folders, then details, the ones that play have their bit rate listed as 192kbps, the ones that don't play have absolutely nothing listed after bit rate :o

@crinrict hmm, i had a converter thing on my old computer but i've never tried it on this 1, is there a built in converter of some sort with win 10, or am i gonna have to pay for some program or something?
