Sims can't go upstairs

I attached some photos of the build, but my sims will not go upstairs no matter what I try. I've deleted walls, railings, decorations, ie, and re-did the stairs themselves but my sims still won't go up them. I've even tried the "invisible fence" trick that I've seen others suggest on similar forums. They work if I move them to the left by one slot, but that would ruin the whole layout ☹️ I downloaded this build from the gallery and the stairs weren't an issue for the creator. I do have the CC downloaded, but it's the same as the creator's and wouldn't have an affect on the stairs (I don't think). I'm playing on a Macbook and have no extension packs downloaded. Please help!

If the stairs work in a vanilla game and don't work when you have CC in, what that means to me is that you have a bad or broken CC item causing the problem.  I have downloaded bad CC before and I have had other CC that got broken by an update.  So, you really need to hunt it down and remove it from your mods folder.  Otherwise, it will cause you more problems in the future.  Given that your game seems to be working normally other than this one thing, it will be hard to find.  You can try the 50/50 method or try things one at the time until you find the item causing the problem.  It depends on how much CC you have how you go about it.

    Hope this helps.

I can't see anything that would block the stairs in your pics.  So, if you would like me or another helper to troubleshoot your build and are willing to upload it to the Gallery, I will download it and take a look to see if I can find what's wrong.  Just come back here with the name of the build.  Or since it was originally a Gallery download, identify the original builder and lot name and I will download and take a look at it.

    Hope this helps.

The gallery ID is: "Mysimsphony" and the lot name is called "vampires Haunted home". It'll look slightly different from my photos because I already tried deleting walls/decor/stairs trying to fix it. Thank you so much!!

I downloaded the build and tested it this morning in a vanilla save.  I do have all packs installed and active when I tested.  Since the build used cc that I don't have, it looked incomplete.  No doors, windows, wall paint, etc.  I had to put in a door and the stairs up to test.  I just copied the stairs going to the basement, rotated them and adjusted them to fit into the space.  Those are all the changes I made.  No floorplan changes.  Then I put a sim on the lot and tested going to the upper floor.  My sim had no problem using the stairs at all. Worked just as it should.  As far as I can tell, there is nothing blocking the stairs.

The download did show that it had cc as I had to turn on the show cc button in my library to find it and I got the warning things have been placed with MOO when I placed it. I did not get a warning that items have been removed when I placed it.  Maybe that is the difference but idk.  But the layout does work for me.

Since the lot worked for me and doesn't for you, one thing I thought of for you to try is to load the lot into a vanilla game without any mods and cc to see if that makes any difference.  If it does, save it to your library again and then install the resave into your main save to see if that makes a difference.  It could be some type of cc remnant that you can't see blocking the path.  Since I had to put in the stairs, the original builder may have used cc stairs which would explain it.

    Repairing might help too.

And if you want to upload your modified version of the lot to the Gallery, I will take a look at it as well.  Up to you.

    Hope this helps.

  • So I tried what you suggested with both my modified version and the original creators version, and both worked when I took out the custom content. I saved the vanilla lots and loaded it into my original game with CC and it still worked, but the stairs were still an issue when I loaded in the original CC lots. That being said, I think you’re right about invisible CC blocking the path, but I’m not sure how to get rid of it.

I repaired the game (didn’t work) and then tried to click the entire area around the stairs to see if I could select/delete any hidden objects but that didn’t work either. I tried looking at other forums to see if there was a cheat for revealing invisible objects or obstacles, but I only found a stuck object remover mod that sadly no longer works.

Also, I’m not quite sure why the stairs didn’t load for you. The build used base game stairs haha. But I did replace them with a different set of stairs too (just in case) that didn’t work either.

Thank you again for the help!!
