Sims Get to Work expansion, glitch??

I've played sims for a long time. In fact one of my favorite games was Sims Busting Out. I noticed on Sims 4, I downloaded the "Get To Work" expansion pack and ever since then I've burned to death in a fire.

I've never had this issue before. But in the span of 2 days, I've made 5 Sims. Each one has died by burning to death after using the stove to cook. At first, I thought I didn't level up my cooking. Then I made sure to make only salads and watch the cooking channel before attempting to cook again, then I made mac & cheese and burned to death. When my Sim caught on fire, I couldn't make her leave the area. I also couldn't make her leave the area before she caught on fire, once the stove was in flames, she stays stuck there.

What's going on, just bad luck? Am I forgetting something (I admit, I took a 3 month break from playing Sims 4)? Why do I keep dying. I've never died so many times in a row. None of my Sims have lived past Day 3.
