It's not CC quantity but compatibility with the current patch level of the game. One piece of CC can cause a problem, yet you could have 3k pieces of CC installed that don't.
Remove all the new CC you added, trash the localthumbcache.package file, then load the game to see if it's working normally again for you. If it is, move the new CC you downloaded back into the Mods folder in small batches, testing your game to see if the issue comes back after adding each batch. When the problem shows up again you know it's one or more pieces of CC in the batch you last added.

- @Bluebellflora Having the same issue as OP... Removed all my CC and reloaded the sim I had the initial issue with and nothing changed (lips folded into each other/teeth visible even after editing or using different face presets) :/ I'm wondering if it's part of the face glitches that have been happening lately but since OP posted this in February I'm not completely sure...
