why will it not let me put my dead family member urn in my in my inventory

i tried to go in and pick up a urn that is 2 squares out of my house reach because one of my sims vampire characters died I tried to have their family member pick their urn up and it wouldn't let me it kept showing a trail with feet and a x over the  person head bubble showing he can't move there and I can't get my sim to pick up the urn to bring it on to the home lot
