Can't rotate house or rooms in the sims 4 ps4

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Sony Playstation 4
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 2.4.3.3400 I think?
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Nothing. Completely base game.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go to build mode with a house built earlier and try to rotate it. Same situation with rooms and lots.
What happens when the bug occurs? I can't rotate. It just either goes to the next build mode option or is meant to redo something.
What do you expect to see? I should be able to rotate my house, lot, and rooms.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Not sure how to upload videos or pictures from my PS4, sorry.

  • @IndieRainbow   Hello!  For rotating, the house / lot / room must be highlighted first.  Please click the spoiler below and try the steps after placing.

Note: The images I've used here are from the PC version, so some will have keystroke commands, like "U" and "Y", that you won't see on PS.  I usually take photos of my PS games with my phone and upload here but screengrabs from PC are easier. :-)

    Spoiler

    For rotating a house:

    1. Select the crossbar (Move House) at the top of your screen.

    2. In the drop down menu, select Move House.

    3. Select the house or whatever building you want to rotate to highlight the house / building.

    4. Press the right and left bumpers (R1 / L1 on PS) to rotate the house / building.

Note: If there are any structures or terrain and landscaping elements that conflict with the placement, the house / building may not rotate.  You may see an error when this happens.

    For rotating lots:

    1. Select the crossbar (Move House) at the top of your screen. (Same as step 1 above)

    2. In the drop down menu, select Move Lot.

This will highlight the entire lot to look something like this.

    3. Once the lot is highlighted, press the right or left bumpers (R1 / L1 on PS) to rotate.

Note: Any items outside the lot boundaries will have a yellow outline and may be deleted (even if you have Move Objects enabled).

    For rotating a room:

When placing a room, the room is automatically highlighted but if it isn't, then simply select a wall or floor of the room to highlight it.

Once highlighted like this, then use the right or left bumpers (R1 / L1 on PS) to rotate it.

Please come back and update if these steps work for you or not.

@JonaO703 For some reason the most recent time I played it worked like normal, but it usually doesn't, even with highlighting stuff. I think maybe it was a different lot where it did work. This does happen pretty frequently still, even though I use the same method every time. Unfortunately right now my TV is broken (I think, it's being weird) so I can't get on the Sims to check if it's working or not right now.

@IndieRainbow   That's a bummer about your TV! :-(   Hopefully you can get it fixed or get a new one ... holiday gift maybe?  :-)

Whenever you do get the chance to check it again, please come back and update if you need more help.  If it still isn't working the next time, perhaps you could try deleting the game and reinstalling from your game library.  Your saves, sims, and builds are stored separately, so you wouldn't lose anything.

Managed to get my TV on temporarily. On one save, rotating works fine. I was playing on that save for a while. Rotated house and rooms perfectly fine. Then I switched to the lot on the save file I made this post for and for some reason it works fine. I guess it's not actually an 100% chance of it happening, sometimes it just randomly says "nah, no rotations for you." When I played on that lot originally and couldn't rotate, I tried the usual method. Didn't work. Tried reloading the game and everything but it didn't help. For some reason it's working now. Didn't delete and reinstall or anything. No clue why all my technology is messed up recently! TV won't turn on properly sometimes, phone screen falling off, laptop isn't able to open files... Anyways, back to the Sims. I'm not sure why it's suddenly working again. Hopefully I don't jinx it.

@IndieRainbow   Thanks for the update!  Ah, technology ... it's such a blessing most of the time but definitely a curse when things don't work properly.  Sorry you've had so much trouble.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything continues working for you!

  • @IndieRainbow Hey, I'm having this same issue. Do you know how you fixed it? I too am on PS4. I've had it happen randomly and it's annoying. I can rotate objects but not rooms.
  • I'm on PS5 and I have the same issue. Just started playing again last week on a new save with sims I imported from my gallery.

I can't rotate anything I use in the build category (rooms, stairs, roof, whole house) after it has already been placed. Pressing L1/R1 while holding an object just lets me switch build tools and drops what I'm holding.

I've never had this issue before and it's quite frustrating especially after I've started furnishing a room. My game did update recently (which is what made me get back on) and I believe this is what caused the issue.

The rotate lot buttons are missing when using a controller. L1/R1 didn't work either. Can use mouse on ps4/5 to fix it but it's still annoying.
