I've merged your post to this thread as the issue you were describing is the same one we are discussing here.

Hi Mai, just wanted to let you guys know that alecianfli226's workaround is definitely working. Do it exactly how he states and it works.
Travelling to another location doesn't work for me, and the only way to get out of the frozen menu is to click the L stick. When fixing this bug, PLEASE try and make the fixes without us losing our progress, I've played games before with bugs, the publisher sends the patch out which then renders prior game saves as useless ☹️
I've also had issues with the notification wall, where its not updating as it should. The game is also a bit buggy with regards to the reaction time of my character. I give a command, and half the time the Sim character decides to not follow orders, or it takes an extended amount of time until the character does as its been told.
Also, another issue I've found is the guitar free giveaway from the main menu screen, in exchange for joining/linking my EA account. I followed the steps, but no free guitar ☹️
Obviously, a couple of bugs are to be expected on a new game, not to mention half of us using Xbox One X now too which has also got its own bugs right now. Hopefully you guys can get this fixed!
And completely off-topic, why can't we phone fire brigade and police, like on PC version? I used to like hoax calling lol

@merciarich thanks for the reports, but would you mind reporting each bug in a different thread, in the Bug Reports forum, please? We have a special template in that forum for bug reports, and it's easier to keep track of everything if each issue has its own thread.

@trinitarian1979 Thanks for explaining what you did. My suggestion was to save in one save game each time, instead of saving twice in both. So you could open the game, play for example for 30 min and save in slot A. Then play for another 30 min and save in B. Next time in A, etc. So if at some point you realize you are playing and can't save, you could go back to the previous save. Sorry if my explanation was confusing. ☹️
