Unable to cook with prepped ingredients

I recently bought the home chef DLC and prepping ingredients is easy enough but when it comes to cooking with prepped ingredients my sim will not do it. They sit it on the ground and will never pick it back up. When click resume cooking their arms stick out and then quickly go back down. I clicked cook removed the use prepped ingredients and my sim began to cook the food. They then ran to pick up the prepped ingredients and added it to what was already cooking and now it's stuck in the over and I can't even take it out.
