Alex is the name of my external drive.
It has been days and I still can't figure this out for the life of me. I have tried following steps from Bluebellaflora's article "Running your Sims 4 folder from an external drive" which seems to work for a lot of people but I am having some issues throughout the process. My first issue is when I try to type in the code into the terminal the Electronic Arts folder just disappears from my computers documents folder and goes into my hard drive but not with all the information that a Sims folder typically have. Also not to mention the Electronic Arts folder isn't even in my documents section to begin with it comes and goes so thankfully i have a copy of it on my desktop just in case so i dont lose any data from my games. I will just stop there before I go into my other issues I want to fix this one first. I am so stressed and really need help figuring this out! Please someone help lol

What is inside the Electronic Arts folder you successfully move to the external drive, can you post a screenshot please.
If you are copying the move command from my guide, substituting the name of my external drive for yours, and you have stated the folder successfully moves, then it is moving the correct folder from the correct location. Any other folder is not the correct one and the command would not move it. - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler
so i seemed to successfully move my folder to the drive but when i open up the game there is nothing of mine. none of my data transferred.

sorry if that wasn't clear enough. all my mods, saves, etc. is all in my solid state drive but the game itself when i open it up through origin looks like this.

You haven't created the symlink yet so the game has now created another Electronic Arts folder in your Documents folder. Delete it and create the symlink. - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora okay i fixed that and it seemed to work but now when i open up the sims through Origin it opens up and just sits on the loading screen. i restarted my mac and it still is doing it, i dont even have the option to force quit.

Do you have an adapter attached to the cable from the SSD drive converting the connection to one that fits your Mac? - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora Yes i do its all plugged in
- alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora It finally loaded up but everything is very slow... not sure why that would happen considering nothing else is on this hard drive. it is a 1TB solid state drive is that not a lot of storage? im new to this stuff.

This is why I asked if you have an adapter. If you aren't using a direct cable USB-C to USB-C or Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt the connection will be slow and laggy. If you are having to plug the external drive cable into an adapter and then into your Mac the speed will only be as fast as the slowest connection, probably in the adapter. - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora Oh gotcha makes sense.. whats you're recommendation for the best ssd or hard drive for this?

You have an SSD which is fine. It's the connection you need to make sure is fast. It has to be USB-C or Thunderbolt on both ends, without the need for an adapter to plug into your Mac. If your current drive doesn't have this connection it would be a good idea to get one that does, something like this https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HPQ32ZM/A/lacie-500gb-mobile-ssd-secure-usb-c-drive - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora Okay! Thanks so much. One last question though, i downloaded a couple of new cc and it doesn't seem to show up in game?
- alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora All my old cc shows up but not the new ones.

Don't know I'm afraid. Before launching the game open a Finder window showing the contents of the drive and give it a minute to populate and load the data before launching Origin. Make sure the CC is properly installed in the Mods folder etc. If the game is loading saves it should be loading CC if the CC is in the Mods folder. - alyssaswan143 years agoRising Traveler@Bluebellflora I will try that, thank you so much for your help! I really really appreciate it.
