Please post a screenshot showing the alias created using the symlink in your Documents folder and a screenshot of the Sims 4 or Electronic Arts folder, whichever one you moved, on the external drive. Make sure the file path is clearly visible in the screenshots (Finder > View > Show Path Bar).

Hey thanks so much for your reply I’ve figured out how to fix it I had to change my hard drive name for some reason … now my packs are not working do I also need to move them the same way I did for the ea folder with the sym link? .. thanks again

No. See the first paragraph in the opening post on page 1. A link is provided for the game installation location. - 2 years ago@Bluebellflora Thank you so much . I think I’m just going to leave the packs ok my laptop it’s too much hassle 😩 I’m not very tech savvy

It's really easy:
Game installation (base game + Packs) - change installation location to external hard drive in Origin > Installs & Saves and either redownload base game + packs to that location or move from the existing location to the external
Sims 4 folder containing saves etc. - use symlink to store on external drive
