Recently I received an external hard drive, did all the steps and all my data got erased. I started over and downloaded sims 4 and origin to the hard drive and updated the preferences to save to the hard drive. However, now all my saves and mods are saving to my computer and not the external hard drive. I would like all the files to save to the external so I can free up space on my Mac.

can this be done?

Yes, by creating a symbolic link on your Mac. See the opening post on page one of this thread I have merged your post into.
