Hi @Bluebellflora ! I'm going through this problem as well ("The Sims 4 is already running" and such). My game is located in an external drive. I have a macbook air (13-inch, Early 2014) that just came back from repair and the EA app was nowhere to be found. I reinstalled it and started my game, but "the sims 4 is already running" appeared. I didn't understand the "other user profile" method and how someone playing the game from an external drive could do it, can you explain a bit better?

Is your game installed on the external drive, or you have created a symlink to store your Electronic Arts>The Sims 4 folder on the external drive, or both?
