Does it need to be an iMac or Mac at all? Sims 4 is available for both Windows and Mac but Mac can be a little pricey, especially if you only want something for Sims.
Btw the new iMacs are incredible!
The min and max specs for Windows and Mac are here: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/system-requirements
I would say whichever you want be it Windows or Mac you're going to be better off with a dedicated video card rather than integrated graphics. You will run games with integrated graphics but if it's an old system you use then it might not be good enough.
A dedicated graphics card will give you plenty of graphics power which will make everything run better without lowering settings etc.
So I would say for the best experience anything with:
4GB RAM +
A quad core CPU ideally or dual core CPU if you're happy to run at min spec.
A dedicated GPU at least from Nvidia or AMD
Any size Hard drive which you will get enough space with any PC as standard anyway.
All that is pretty much low end stuff so you should have a fair few options. - @supamcnastypt2
It MUST have:
8GB RAM minimum
i5 quad-core processor, i7 or i9 would be better
Nothing older than a 2012 model but later would definitely be better
Dedicated NVIDIA/AMD GPU, not integrated Intel
SSD/Flash internal drive. An older, mechanical drive will have a higher likelihood of failing. Try not to go for one that has a Fusion drive.
It's important to remember that there are big differences between Mac and Windows. If you want Windows advice ask in the Sims 4 PC tech forum - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/bd-p/The-Sims-4

I have an i7 iMac with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1 GB video card, and it runs fine except it has some substantial performance issues with the green neighborhood lighting effects, so if you have Eco Living, you'll probably want to find one with a better video card than that.

Which version of macOS are you running? If it's an older one you may be able to download the beta NVIDIA driver which will dramatically improve the performance for you - https://bluebellflora.com/manually-update-nvidia-geforce-graphics-drivers-in-os-x/ - wombatilim5 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Bluebellflora It's on 10.15.7. I'm getting a new one soon anyway so I'm not too concerned about it for myself.

Ah ok. There isn't a beta for Catalina anyway I don't think. Good to know about the issue with the Eco pack though - thanks!
