Can I play Sims for free edition on iPad Pro 2024?

Hello forum folks! This is my first post here and I have an interest in trying to play Sims for the first time after watching some YouTube videos. However, I only use an iPad and I don’t see any options to run it, but I do see people in the forums talking about running it on ipads

Now to be clear, I’m talking about Sims four which I have discovered is a radically different games than the free Sims game available for iPad. I tried that and it’s not at all what I’m looking for.

Back to trying to run Sims for free edition on an iPad. I’ve Ive llooked all over the Internet to try and figure out how to make this happen and I’m completely confused..

Can somebody give me a heads up on if this is possible and if it is something I can do  relatively easy. I am tech minded, but I am not a programmer. Maybe it’s a matter of doing an emulator like you used to do on a PC for video games? I don’t know.

Anyhow, would really like to try out the game before purchasing i so look forward to hearing what you guys have to say! And thank you

PS excuse the weird locked text. The form won’t let me post if I have spaces because it’s saying it is HTML?

  • CanadianRarity  Steam Remote Play is basically a service to stream gameplay from the device that runs the game to the device you use to interact with the game.  So if you have a PC at home with a game installed, you can play that game through a different device, even when out of the house.  It doesn't allow you to run games directly on devices that don't support them.  In this example, you'd still need a PC on which to install and run Sims 4.

If you're willing to pay for a subscription, you could try a cloud gaming service, some of which might be compatible with your iPad.  The idea is that the game runs on a server somewhere, owned by the service, and streams to your device.  So it's like Remote Play but with someone else's computer.  But it might not be worth paying a monthly fee to play one (free) game that you might not stay with long-term.

The only reason Sims 4 can't run on any iPad is that the devices run iPadOS rather than macOS.  The higher-end iPads, including your Pro 2024, include the same M-series chips as Macs, so the game would be compatible on a hardware level.  But rewriting the game for a different operating system can often be a significant undertaking, and it's possible the work wouldn't pay off considering most people who own an iPad and might play Sims 4 also have access to a computer.

Puzzle addict – thank you for such a thorough and clear hypothesis and answer. I did end up trying the stream software to iPad and the only challenges. The interface doesn’t let you access half of the game controls. You can only use the interface the way that they have it set up and some of the very important things like checking on vitals or clicking the sims personal home button aren’t accessible for some reason. Otherwise, it works quite well.

I think it’s a shame that they decided to go with a completely different game for iPad-one that is 1/10 of what the regular game is – it doesn’t make any sense frankly because it goes nowhere. They’re not gonna make any money out of it because they’re not gonna be able to sell tax or even interest in the game because it’s so benign.

Anyhow, that’s my own personal opinion, but I do appreciate you taking moment to answer question my question.

    Thank you.

Thank you for replying! I’ve been trying to get an answer about this for a few days now. I’ve never heard of steam remote play, but I will look into it. Sounds like an emulator and then you are doing a screen cast or something? Or I guess PC to iPad would have to be wired. I wish somebody would make a YouTube video about this or that EA ( hello EA dev’s, are you listening? Ha ha. ) would make an iPad version.

I don’t understand how come there isn’t one if they have the free Sims games  available in the Apple App Store. However, It’s really bad. There’s no worlds it’s just one town and the controls are different. You can’t even get your guys to do anything once they’re in a task…

    anyhow thank you for that!

  • The Sims 4 base game is completely free and has been for the past two years. It is not available natively for i(Pad)OS or Android.

If you also have a computer, you can use Steam Remote Play and Steam Link to play PC games on your iPad. I can't guarantee how well it'll work with Sims 4, but numerous games seem to work fine with it.
