I am on the normal version of the game, not the legacy edition. I bought the get famous, perfect patio and the dream home decorators packs

What does it say in Origin under the pack in your games library? Download, Installed, Details or something else?
Have you run the Origin reset tool? https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/- @Bluebellflora installed, and it appears in the Home Screen of sims 4 in "my packs" but doesn't let me use the items in game.
