Glitched lines across UI in bottom part of game screen

Hello there,

So ever since the patch for university (on the 12th I believe), my screen has been flickering grey/static-like. Technically, I know what's causing this issue: edge smoothing. So, I turned off edge smoothing. However, edge smoothing is extremely important for me, and I'd like to see if I can find out why edge smoothing causes this flickering so that I can fix the problem and resume using edge smoothing.

The game only flickers over UI menus (e.g game options, relationship panels, career opportunity messages etc), which leads me to believe this may have something to do with the UI scale update, although I'm not sure. I do have mods in my games, however I had to take them out for the patch and the problem still occurred without them, so I think it's unlikely this issue is caused by mods.

Any suggestions?

I've been playing around with settings and I'm not sure how many people this will work for (the solutions to this problem seem to differ from person to person), but I'll put it out there anyway. 

I set all my settings back to how they originally came (there's a button for that called 'revert to original settings' I think), turned laptop mode off, turned edge smoothing to low, turned vertical sync on, set objects and sims to high/very high in graphics, and didn't change anything else. For those who use CC, enable script mods again, too. The game still looks relatively good for me with all these settings.

Have played about 5 hours of gameplay since doing this, and only now the flickering is starting to come back, although it's mild and tolerable. If it starts to get bad again, I might try it all again and see if it temporarily fixes it again.

If these specific settings don't work, I think you might have to play around with your settings a bit. So, take note of what your settings are set to (in case you want to change them back), revert back to the original settings that came with the game, and start turning things off/on in order of priority. E.g, if the game looks terrible without edge smoothing, enable that first and then start playing around to make that work.

So I just downloaded a bundle with Discover University, Strangerville, and the Moschino Stuff Pack. 

As I opened up the game for gameplay, I saw that the UI section was glitching out...like GLITCHING out! 

I repaired my game, I updated it, I removed my CC, removed tray files and save files....it still glitches out. 

Not sure if it's anything to do with the patch update...

So I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if not, is there a solution of something similar that anyone could suggest.

@IzzyM0NA  I don't see any video; maybe it didn't go through.  Are you on a Mac, and if so, is this what you're seeing?

What happens when the bug occurs? When I go into gameplay, the bottom half of the screen disappears (like bits and pieces) in and out. Sometimes it makes noise.

Hello, 

I think that there is a bug issue with my UI system at the bottom half of my screen. 

It will glitch in and out of view, and sometimes it makes noises. 

The gameplay itself is not affected, and so that is fine. 

It only appears during gameplay. 

For more context: 

I had recently bought a bundle for Discover University, Strangerville, and the Moschino stuff pack yesterday, November 30th. While the package was downloading, I had removed all the CC to make sure nothing happened to it. So I know it doesn't have anything to do with that.

I had also not opened my game for about two weeks, and I only checked my origin to do the November patch update. So I don't know if that is a factor either.

Has there been a case like this before and is there a possibility to fix it?

I will attach a video of the glitch happening.

Hi there! I have the same issue, but I found out that the problem went off when I set the "Soft Edge" to low in the graphic options, however I went back to my original setting (medium I think) because I hate how it looks in a lower setting and I know it's a bug that came with the last update. Maybe try doing that and see if you don't mind the graphic change.
