I play The Sims 4 on MacBook Pro M5 Pro with 48GB RAM, macOS Tahoe 26.5.1.
The game runs with heavy lag, especially when saving while online.
I removed ALL CC, cleared all cache and exception log files, but the problem persists.
After editing a Sim, the loading screen spins infinitely. No system warning sound on Mac, game stuck forever.
In addition, only a few minutes into gameplay, if I leave the current lot to go into the world and switch to another household, the game freezes completely. There is no response, I have to force quit the game.
I have tried repairing the game, switching to windowed mode and deleting localthumbcache.package. Freezing still occurs. This appears to be a Metal rendering compatibility bug for Apple Silicon Macs. Please fix this issue.
I've merged your post into an existing thread where a couple of other users have posted the same issue on M5 Macs running Tahoe. Unfortunately there has been little response to my questions. Please can you:
- Provide the full specs of your Mac - Apple > About This Mac for chip and model (including screen size). Then click More Info and under Hardware Overview provide Model Identifier and Total number of cores.
- Are you running an older version of Tahoe for any specific compatability reason? The current version is 26.7.1. You could even consider upgrading to macOS 27 Golden Gate.
- Properly test a completely clean game with none of your existing user data loaded into the game as explained here and see if the issue persists and what the trigger may be in that clean folder
