my save files aren't showing in game?

I recently had to restart my laptop (Mac running High Sierra) and when this happened a lot of files were lost.

My Sims 4 save files are still in the folder, and the one I'm attempting to open is the latest save I have. However, it will not show up in game and it is not recoverable.

I'm not running any mods, I've deleted the cache, moved the file, made a new save file and placed it with the saves from new games (it takes me to CAS as soon as I open it), and so far absolutely no luck. The game cannot be repaired as I've uninstalled and reinstalled.

I have the file backed up externally.

Does anyone have any ideas? I made it so far in that save file I really don't know that I'll keep playing if I can't get it back.

    The game will never load data from any location other than Documents > Electronic Arts (unless you do some symlink stuff in Terminal) so whatever you read was incorrect unfortunately.

    Make sure all your saves are in the right location - Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves.

    Please could you click on your saves folder once to select it then go to File > Get Info. Under the General > Where section near the top of the info window please copy and paste the location of your saves folder here.

    that's where it was originally, but one of the answers on here suggested moving the file to the desktop to try to access it. the new files are saving to the same folder, the old ones just aren't available. if i go through my hard drive, the location is /Users/alaina/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4.
