Re: Sims 4 MacBook Air with Extension packs, okay?
@MalongDick69 Your Mac is a bit underpowered for the more demanding Sims 4 expansion packs, although the earlier EPs (and most game packs, and all stuff packs) would probably be fine. However, the cumulative effect of a large number of packs can also drag down performance, so it's best install only one or two at a time and see how things go.
As far as specific packs go, the most demanding are the newer EPs, particularly Cats & Dogs, Seasons, and Island Living. Depending on what kind of performance you're expecting and what in-game settings you use, you might be able to run one of them without issues, but it's not guaranteed. Different people have different results based on their preferences and variations in their setups.
A good, if rough, estimate of how your computer is handling the game is the framerates you're getting. Bring up the cheats console (crtl-shift-C) and enter "fps on" without quotes. The number will appear in the lower left corner of your screen. The more demanding the game is on your hardware, the fewer frames per second you'll get. Lowering the graphics settings will raise the performance, and lowering the in-game resolution will help dramatically, so feel free to experiment a bit. Playing at a lower scaled resolution can still look good while allowing you to raise the other settings and still get good performance.
So see how your laptop is holding up now, and if you're happy with it, maybe add a game pack, a couple of stuff packs, and/or an early EP. It's best not to add more than one expansion at a time though, just to make sure your computer can still run the game too your satisfaction. And whatever else you do, be sure to let your computer cool itself properly. Elevate it (put books under the corners or something), get a laptop tray, or use a cooling pad or fan. Excess heat can throttle performance even on high-end systems.
