Sims 4 isn't launching! EA app on Macbook Air

I got a new laptop about a week ago (Macbook Air) and I decided to try downloading the Sims since I haven't played in years (because my old HP laptop was..old and couldn't run the game without over heating or crashing, and because my laptop after that was a Macbook Pro with limited space I couldn't even download the basegame). It was running perfectly for about 3 days, played every single day for about 4-6 hour sessions and downloaded tons of CC and mods and they all ran great.

I went to play today and the game simply wouldn't launch. I keep clicking PLAY and the Sims 4 icon jumps for a few seconds on the doc (like it does with every app that you go to open), the EA app window minimizes, then the Sims 4 icon stops, and the EA app window comes back onto my screen. Game didn't launch.

I've repaired the game, removed all CC and mods and tried running a vanilla game (with EA additional content i.e. expansion, game, and stuff packs), uninstalled and reinstalled the game, uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app, restarted my laptop, updated to the absolute latest version of macOS, shut down my Mac for a few hours and turned it back on and still nothing. At this point the only thing I haven't done is factory reset my laptop and started from scratch.

Has ANYONE had this problem and more importantly does anyone have a solution? I am so close to crashing out it's not even funny, I just want to play the game I spent so much money on.

  • I am having the same issue. I click "Play", the screen minimizes, and the Sims4 app jumps then brings back up the EA app. Will not load. I uninstalled the game and it would open, but the minute I allowed CC and Mods it stopped working. Tried uninstalling again and now it won't open at all, mods or not.

  • I am having the same problem (macbook pro). Origin worked fine for me last week, but this weekend it stopped launching for me all together. Re-installing it did not help, so I decided to switch the the EA app, thinking I may as well. I updated my Macbook to the newest macOS version in order to install the EA app. I tried launching the game and it would not launch, just as described here, except I also got a "Verifying The Sims 4" loading bar that will stop loading and the game will stop launching. I uninstalled The Sims 4 and re-installed it and it that has not fixed it at all. The EA App has full disk access, so its not that either.

  • @Bluebellflora I have tried every step listed and unfortunately the problem is still occurring. Also, I can't complete a repair of the game because the same "Verifying The Sims 4" issue happens and the repair cancels right when it is almost complete.

You also mention "The EA App has full disk access, so it's not that either" but the game needs access too, not just EA App. Or at least, the game needs access to your Documents folder and removable volumes if you have the game installed on an external drive or a symlink to the EA/TS4 folder on an external drive.
  • This was the problem! I gave full access to the game itself and now it is launching. Thank you so much.
