Sims 4 will open to resume menue, but then will just load and won’t open

I was playing sims all day, not any issues at all, went out for dinner for a few hours, and then when I got home went onto the game to show my partner everything I had been building, and it just didn’t open. It opened up to the main menu screen where you can resume the game, but when I clicked resume it just loaded for ages and didn’t open.

The laptop is really running out of space so I’m not sure if that has to do with anything, I also added a new mod onto it this morning but it was absolutely fine after I added it, and I had opened and closed the game a few times throughout the session, and there were no issues. I tried to remove the mods folder and it still didn’t open, so then I removed the whole sims 4 folder and it created a new game and was fine. I then added my mods folder back into it and it worked fine, but then I added my saves folder and it didn’t work again so maybe I have a corrupt save??

I don’t know how to fix this please help. I spent HOURS today recreating my parents house and I was so good with making sure to save the game religiously every 20-30 minutes.  I tried to add the most recent save only and it didn’t work, so I have gone back a few saves and added each of them individually into the folder, but the game is refusing to work. I did a lot of building today though so that’s why it might be the laptop space? I just don’t know how to fix this. Could even be the new EA update?
