Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

If you're experiencing this error message it doesn't mean your game is already running, the actual message itself is incorrect. It means The Sims 4 cannot access the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 fold...

That is Origin, not the game. You've denied it permission to access your Documents folder which is why it isn't working.

Is your Mac user account and administrator account or standard? Is it a school or work computer?

@Bluebellflora Ive tired switching the permission both ways and the game still doesnt load. The mac is mainly used for university work but i do use it for personal things too.

    What permissions where? I don’t see the game in your screenshot, only Origin.

    @Bluebellflora the game doesn't come up in my settings when i follow the instruction in system preferences only origin

    Yes, which is why you’re getting the error message.

    Which version of macOS are you running?

    And again, is your Mac account an administrator account or standard account?

    I don’t need to know what you do on your Mac, just whether it was supplied to you, in which case it may have restrictions, or it is your own personal device.

    @Bluebellflora i am running macOS 14.1.2 and i purchased it myself meaning i have a standard account

    @Bluebellflora my account is running an administrator account, i have just looked. I have uninstalled both the game and origin and it still says that the game is already running.

    Your problem is the game not having access to the Documents folder. You need to figure out why your operating system isn’t prompting you for this when you reinstalled the game and ran it for the first time after installation.
