Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

If you're experiencing this error message it doesn't mean your game is already running, the actual message itself is incorrect. It means The Sims 4 cannot access the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 fold...

Are you running Catalina?

Do you have a Sims 4 folder in your Documents > Electronic Arts folder? If so please move the entire folder to your desktop and try to launch your game.

In System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Files & Folders and check that Sims 4 has access to the Documents folder,

In System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Full Disk Access make sure Origin has access
