Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

If you're experiencing this error message it doesn't mean your game is already running, the actual message itself is incorrect. It means The Sims 4 cannot access the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 fold...

I have repaired the game through EA multiple times, I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, I have deleted both EA and the Sims 4 from my computer and I am still getting this message. I tried only reinstalling the base game and none of my expansion packs, still getting this message.

I have no mods and have uninstalled SIms 3, my only other game. 

Someone please help me.
