Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

For the last few months my sims will not open each time it has the same error- picture uploaded.

i have done everything! Deleted ea, the sims, redownloaded it all. Restated the computer, cleared data cache .

anyone else had this or managed to resolve?
