Why does the Sims 4 take up so much space?

I have a Macbook Air 2015 and the Sims 4 application takes up over 25 GB. It is more than any application and really cuts into my Mac's available space. I'm not talking about the folder in documents, but the actual application in "applications". I don't know if they are the same thing but they apparently take up different amounts of GB.

I am wondering if there is anything I can do to reduce this number. Is it because of too many packs or custom content? Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi @k3rm1t123,

    Size on your Applications folder depends on you base game + packs installed. 25GB for The Sims 4 is normal, the game has so many assets and with lots of packs installed the game is huge. You can't do anything to prevent this, if you want to play The Sims 4 with all your packs installed the game needs that space. You can always install the game on a external drive to free up some space on your internal drive.

    Hi I have the same problem! If I install the game onto an external hard drive would i have to transfer my saves and/or my custom content and mods as well?

    @j1lly14

    Your Sims 4 folder which contains your saves/mods/tray etc. stays on your internal storage in Documents > Electronic Arts.
  • I'm having a similar problem, except when I install my game, with NO data (i saved my save files and did a CLEAN install) it says 18.1 gb, great. That's fine, I have like 40gb free on my ssd. But after everything was installed, somehow I only had 1.08gb free???? How did it go from 18.1 to 39 gb???? Is it somehow doubling somewhere????????? I uninstalled immediately because that causes my computer to go VERY slow.

    Thanks!

  • Are you not familiar with common game space requirements... almost all modern games take around 25 to 150 gb
