Will downloading Sims 4 slow down my iMac?

While you are downloading the file it will be very slow, of course, but just having it on the computer should not slow it down at all. I have an iMac as well, and the only time it is slow is when I have the sims 4 up and running while trying to do other things. Overall though, I have not noticed much of a difference in it's performance.
