.package file

I did something dumb.

I'm using Windows 10 and I accidentally changed the program the .package files open with. I changed it to open .package files with internet explorer. I don't know what program it originally used and I tried resetting the default settings option (recommended when I googled how to undo my mistake), but it is still set to open with internet explorer.

Please help me. This is so annoying, I don't even know the slightest way to fix this.

And I don't want to open it like a Zip file or WinRar, I just want it to look like the normal blank white page icon.
  • @hughug There is no default program for opening package files in windows normally. There are programs you can download and install that can open them, but there's no normal default.

Normally if you download a package file, you just put it straight into your mods folder. No need to open it or do anything with it other than move it.

There's quite a few ways to undo to remove the association, but none of them are particularly straightforward. I'd just edit the registry, but that's not something I'm comfortable explaining how to do to someone who I don't know exactly how tech savvy they are.

This page has several different methods you can use, step-by-step...maybe scroll through it and find one that you think would not be too difficult for you (Option #5 at the bottom is the simplest, if you are willing to download and use a 3rd party app):

  • @Stormkeep Bless you!

Options 1-3 didn't help but OPTION 4 God I could kiss you. Thank you lol, I know it is a small issue but it bugged the heck outta me.

@So_Money Haha, OCD just be like that sometimes.
  • You can try creating a blank text document in notepad and name it something like "useless.exe," then set a package file to open with useless.exe. After that, delete useless.exe and it should go back to the way it was.
  • I wouldn’t worry about it. If all you’re doing is adding mods to your game there’s no need to open a .package file. So it probably won’t affect you.
  • No problem @hughug...I almost told you just to not worry about it, then I realized it would drive me crazy until I fixed it and you might be the same based on the last sentence of your post. Glad you got things sorted.
