Accidently Deleted Game

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me.

Tonight my daughter accidently deleted my game. I have gone into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves however there is only todays saves in there and all of them are from my daughters game and not mine.

Have I completely lost my game, house and family or can it be recovered somehow?

Thank you!

  • @organiccupcake On the load screen, where you pick which world to load up, there is a button on the bottom-right called "Recover Save"

If you click that, it should give you a list of the last few deleted save files. If there are any listed there, restore them and see if those contain the games you're missing.
  • @PsychotpsThanks for your reply. I tried that. It only brings up my daughters world saves.

Should I have more saves from previous days somewhere?

  • Hi @organiccupcake - do you know if your daughter actually clicked on the "x" and deleted your games, or did they just "disappear"? If she accidentally deleted by X-ing them out, then unfortunately the games are all gone.

If she didn't directly delete them from inside the game, then it's possible they're saved under a different Windows user name or the game redirected saves to OneDrive (or you were using OneDrive and she used the computer's hard drive). Here's a couple of ways to find your missing games: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/save-games-disappearing/ and an explanation of the game files - try the part under "In the File System": https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

I hope you can find your old game files. I had a similar problem once, although no child to blame for it ☹️ - and lost my entire legacy challenge game. I now regularly copy my saves folder to another spot so if it ever happens again, I'll have a backup. It's a good practice to get into, even if you find your files.

🤞 Hope you find your save files. Happy Simming!

@organiccupcake I don't think so. I think it only shows the last few saves. If your daughter deleted them from in-game a while ago and then continued to play, they would likely only show her last few saves and "might" be gone.

I would try @BlackjackWidow 's suggestion and see if you might have a copy elsewhere.

@BlackjackWidow ahh right. Thank you for that. Yep my daughter definately clicked on the 'x'. Poor thing feels so bad.

Would a system restore on my computer bring it back?

If not, this is definately a lesson learnt.

Unfortunately, a system restore only restores system files, program files and registry settings. It doesn't touch your personal files. The only way you could retrieve them is if you do regular backups that include your documents folder.

So sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, I'm sure your daughter feels terrible. If it helps at all, I feel your pain. Along with many many others, I suspect 🙂

@organiccupcake No, a system restore will only restore things like drivers, installed programs, system configuration settings and such.
Sims 4 files are stored in your personal area which isn't touched by System Restore.

I don't suppose you happened to make a backup of your Documents directory at some point?

@organiccupcake One thing you might look into, create yourself a different logon onto the computer from your daughter. Then your Sims 4 saves, mods and such will be stored differently from hers. She could then do what she wanted and it wouldn't effect yours.
