After a new patch, My GPU usage is 100%

Ever since the original High School Years Patch update I have been getting 100% GPU usage on my game. It lags and looks like crap... I have never had this issue previously, I have tested with and without mods and I only have a few at that, that have been updated! I have a 1660Ti graphics card that is more than capable of handling this game. it's absolutely ridiculous and I just want to play the game I paid hundreds of dollars for...

  • The funny thing is that last patch I had to REINSTALL THE SIMS SIMS ALL TOGETHER... Why should I have to do that every single patch!?

  • @pyuppie  A 1660 ti shouldn't be maxed out running Sims 4, at least not if you're playing at a reasonable resolution.  What res are you using in-game?  You can see it with the other graphics options.

In that same location, please also try playing with vertical sync enabled.  This only applies in fullscreen mode.

For good measure, please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddict I am sorry I already reinstalled the sims. It's so weird! I only had this issue last week with the first. My graphic settings stay on ultra and I usual play in windowed fullscreen on a 4k resolution. Easily. When it patches it absolutely destroys my graphics card.

@pyuppie  I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't play in 4k, only that it's going to tax your graphics card.  A 4k resolution means four times as many pixels to render as full HD, and while the workload doesn't scale linearly, it certainly increases by a significant amount.

How is your game running after the reinstall?  If you're still getting lag, please post a dxdiag, and also let me know what kind of framerates you're seeing.  You can use the cheat "fps on" to find out; the number will appear in the lower-left corner, over the UI.

@pyuppie  Please run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files.  Here's how:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If you have any Razer software, please uninstall it for now, then test the game.

If you still have the same issues, please try playing in a clean boot:

Put Origin in offline mode as well.
