CAN'T CLICK ON ANYTHING

I have been having an issue in my game since the start of the deeper rewards event where no matter what I do I can't click anything. I can click on the things in the main menu, select what save I want to play in, or make a new game but if I'm in CAS I can't click on clothes or the sim at all. And if I'm in Live Mode I can pretty much only watch the game.

Please help I really want to try the reward challenges but I can't if I can't play the game.

Thanks

  • @Superhero345  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, please remove them.

To be clear, by "the last two mods," you mean there are no longer any mods in your Mods folder?  If not, please do test with your Mods folder removed; you don't need to save your progress.

  • @Superhero345  Please disable any apps you use that come with overlays: Steam, Discord, etc.  Disable the EA App in-game overlay as well; the option is under Settings > Application.

If that doesn't help, does it make a difference whether you're playing in fullscreen or windowed mode?  Please test and let me know.

Why would any overlay apps matter if this is a glitch from the update? I'm seeing a LOT of complaints of this issue since this update 😭

Because not everyone is affected, so it's not a problem intrinsic to Sims 4.  It's something about the interaction between the game and the system.

If you'd like help, please try my suggestion and let me know whether it makes a difference.  If not please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply, that is if you're playing on a Windows PC.

I made sure to turn off all the app specific in-game overlays I had available (Steam & EA), but it had no effect. I also tried changing the display type to Windowed, Windowed Fullscreen, and Fullscreen, but it also made no difference.

If it helps, I just removed the last two mods in my mods folder (Wicked Whyms & MC Command Center) and I still couldn't click anything.

Yes, when I tested the game then and today I did not have any mods in my mod folder. I can confirm that removing the files in the ConfigOverride folder fixed this issue for me, so thank you very much for your help, guys. The only file I had and removed for testing in the aforementioned folder was "GraphicsRuler.sgr". I even added Wicked Whyms & MC Command Center back into my mods folder and tested it again. With the ConfigOverride folder empty and those two mods in, my game was still fixed. Does anyone know why clearing that folder works, or what "GraphicsRuler.sgr" does to the game?

@Superhero345  GraphicsRules.sgr lists all the game's graphics categories and specifies which setting should apply given the user's hardware or in-game settings.  For example, the in-game Sim Quality setting you choose determines at what distance the game switches between higher and lower levels of detail for sims, along with a half-dozen other values.

The GraphicsRules file is located inside the game's program files, specifically in [install location]\The Sims 4\Game\Bin in Windows.  You can open it in Notepad if you're curious; use ctrl-F to search for keywords, or just scroll through.

If you place a copy inside ConfigOverride, it will override the original.  This is a way to change the settings to what you like in a more granular way than you can accomplish just by fiddling with the in-game graphics settings, AND to preserve your changes after a repair or update, either of which reverts the version in program files to its original state.  However, GraphicsRules is occasionally updated for new content, but only the original file.  So if you have a copy in ConfigOverride that gets outdated, and you don't replace it as well, it can cause all sorts of problems.

Point is, remove this file, and either make yourself a new version from the current one in the game's program files, or wait for whoever made this one to update it for the current patch.
