Cant download package files for custom content

Hello

I've been trying to download custom content from various sites on the internet, but every time I press the download button I get this error message that says " this file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action.Please install an app or,if one is already installed,create an association in the Default App Settings page."

I'm not very tech savvy and i don't know what this means.

I have successfully downloaded package files before. I know how to do install custom content on the Sims 4 but for some reason something is preventing me from downloading package files. Can someone please help me with this issue? thanks

    @SapphirePalmTr3  It sounds like you're trying, or your computer is trying, to open the downloads rather than saving them.  When you download, be sure to select "Save file" rather than "Open."

    If you don't get a prompt to choose, your browser may be set to automatically open everything.  Reset its preferences, or use a different browser.

    i reset the preference and the message hasn't showed up after I pressed download, so it looks like the problem is fixed. Thank you very much.👍

    @Sodax3123  How to reset your browser preferences depends on which browser you use, and sometimes on which operating system you have.  The easiest way to figure it out is probably just to google "[browser name] reset preferences," and follow the directions in whatever guide looks good.  Or you could just use a different browser, since it won't share settings with your current browser.

    @Jazzie_lemus  What issue are you having?  You should always be asked whether you want to open a download or save it, and in the case of mods or custom content, you should always choose "save file."  You don't need to open the files, and doing so could corrupt them.

    Hi, I'm having this issue as well!! Whenever i try to download something i get that pop up, and i tried resetting my preferences but it didnt work? When i do download something, i dont get the option to "save file" or "open" it just shuts out. Help! I used to be able to download cc ☹️

    @45681999  Resetting your browser preferences should have also reset the option to auto-open downloads.  But if that's not helping, try a different browser.  Firefox always works for me, and it does what I want more readily than Chrome or Edge.
